- ECZ-B four barrel intake manifold and carb with electric choke

- RediRad radio module to connect phone
- Pertronix electronic ignition
- Hardened valve seats
- Period correct Draw-Tite trailer hitch
- Period correct rocker moldings
- Blue vinyl wrap added to side “projectile” area as an accent. Color similar to factory Blue Ice color. Didn’t want to paint this since it is original paint and still looks good, so I can put it back if I want.

Build story

1959 Mercury Monterey 58A
312 cid Y block V8
Three on the tree manual trans (no o/d)
One of about 44k produced
Very low option car- no radio, clock, or other popular options from the factory. I have since added some.

I first became interested in ‘59 Mercs about seven years ago when I discovered a picture of the one my grandparents bought new. It was a charcoal gray two door sedan and I thought it was the coolest looking car, so I started looking for one. I found this white four door sedan in 2015 and was immediately impressed with how original it is for an Ohio car. No rust anywhere!

I realize a lot of people hate on four doors, but what’s cool about this one is that it has the rare three on the tree manual trans. It’s by no means fast, but it does get up and go well enough for a big car.

I’ve replaced the seat covers to original, cleaned up the exterior, and done some light mechanical refreshing in the engine compartment. Other than that, it’s a preserved car with original paint and just 44k miles!

Thanks to a Craigslist find, I was able to complete the dream by finding an original, made for the car trailer hitch. So I’m able to tow my restored fiberglass boat (pictured), a 1958 Cutter, which my dad and I restored in 2014.
