Build story
This 1967 International Harvester 1100B 4X4 pickup is a true survivor. \_I have the line setting ticket that shows the configuration of the truck as it was delivered. \_The only modification I have found is the bench seat was replaced with period correct buckets somewhere along the way. \_It was delivered to Phoenix and spent some time on Luke Air force Base before moving on to Oregon and Idaho where I bought it.\r
\r
It is equipped with a 345ci V8. \_This is the same engine International used in the larger Loadstar trucks and some school buses. \_It weighs over 700lb and is about the size of a big block Chevy. \_This engine was all about low end grunt. \_It specs out at 196 hp at 4000 rpm and a very respectable torque rating of 309 ft lb at 2200-2400 rpm. \_My truck came with a T36 5 speed transmission. \_How many other light pickups had 5 speeds in 1967?\r
\r
In 2015, I was looking for a Chev or GMC at the time most of which were priced a bit out of reach for me. \_I stumbled across this gem on eBay by chance. \_I had a 1960 International when I was 17 and have always had a soft spot for them. \_I put in a bid and was immediately outbid. \_I set it aside and tossed in one more bid later that evening before going to bed. \_The auction closed around midnight and I was surprised to discover I had won when I got up the next morning. \_A rush of panic followed my initial jubilation. \_I had just purchased a truck half way across the country sight unseen. \_I arranged shipping and was pleased to find the truck in excellent condition when delivered.\r
\r
I haven’t made any mods other than replacing the dry rotted tires. \_I plan to replace the bucket seats with a decent original bench seat. \_I drive this truck on gravel roads and have no plans to repaint it or dress it up in any way. \_My wife insisted on keeping the truck as-is, so we can take it anywhere without being fussy about where we park or how we use it.\r
\r
Looking back, I’m glad I ended up with something out of the ordinary. \_You will see dozens of trucks from the big 3 at car shows, but it is rare to run across an International. \_Some people don’t even know that IH built light duty pickups.
