This was the truck I grew up in and when my father decided to gift it to me for my 16th bday since he had gotten a newer truck a few months before. However the entire drive-train was going out: Trans slipping, engine smoking with no power, rear end leaking like crazy; all fixable but we had each been throwing around the idea of a cummins swap for a couple of years. However dad wanted to do something different, and since we found a cheap DMAX on an insurance auction and a guy in North Carolina who could fix the harness we went with a DMAX swap instead. We swapped the cabs on our homemade lift and had the project running and reliable in about 5 months. She's not perfect and still has some kinks, but she's a daily driver and she does her job well. My father had never laid a hand on a diesel but we figured that since I had been working on at a diesel shop the last two summers, I could either figure it out or ask a couple guys at work who knew it way better.
