2020 Valuation Report\r

The BMW E30 M3 was a huge hit worldwide with enthusiasts and a solid record of success in motorsport events soon marked the E30 as a performance car icon. Given that success however, it was a little surprising that BMW decided to change tack so much with its successor, the E36 model M3 which came to the market in 1992. While the first generation M3 was more of a track-focussed car, the E36 was more of a comfortable daily-driver. Despite this, however, the car still gave a good account of itself and it was generally regarded as one of the better all round performance cars of its time.\r
The car featured a 3.0 S50 straight six engine which had a reputation for incredible strength and performance potential. A revised chassis, improved suspension, and suitable brakes completed the package.\r
This particular car appeals because, although it has covered rather a large mileage, it still presents to a high standard by its enthusiast owner and can easily be described as being in very good condition.\r
The Alpine White paintwork appears fine and there have been enhancements made to the exterior look of the car by the addition of the M3 Evo graphics to the left front and right rear quarters of the car.\r
As would be expected, the bodywork is straight and undamaged with all visible shut lines and body gaps appearing perfect. The badging and bright work is also in good shape as is the glass and the head and taillight units.\r
Later model M3 double-spoke Motorsport alloy wheels have been fitted and these set the car off to perfection. \r
The interior has also been well taken care off and once again presents in an “as new” condition. The seats are covered in the original and correct M3 material and these, along with the carpets, headlining and door cards are immaculate. The dash and instruments appear stock and once again, the overall presentation of these is perfect.\r
Mechanically, the immaculate engine bay displays a motor that is, I understand, a stock M3 Motorsport unit which performs well as does the 5 x speed manual gearbox. Brakes and suspension are also the factory improved versions as fitted to the M3 model.\r
These cars were relatively plentiful here in the early to mid 90s given that they were a popular choice for executive transport at the time. They have also been a popular choice as JDM imports over the years. Like so many of this type of car, prices initially drop away steadily with depreciation and as a consequence of their aging but then they reach a point where prices flatten off for a few years before a slow but steady appreciation is seen as good examples of the cars start to be sought after. Prices currently have remained steady for the last year or so.\r
Unfortunately, the E36 remains the most unloved of the M3s lacking as it does the charisma of the E30 (apart from the rarer EVO versions) and also being overshadowed by the later E46 that followed. However, that only serves to make these cars a sound investment to a collector at the moment as well cared for examples will only continue to rise in value.
