Build story

I bought my car back in 2015 to which I wanted a Utility for work purposes where my Mum Nagged me to get at-least a dual cab... When we saw the car it was too good to salvage and from their we fixed bit by bit on it until it was street legal as possible.\r
\r
I put 2 offset stripes on the bull bar from inspiration on how this car held a really good stance and pulled really hard through a roundabout in the rain, these things are infamous for rolling over, and feeling how solid this car is compared to say a Daihutsu Terios. It's a keeper!\r
\r
I don't know how it will feel when the engine swap happens, but I am expecting more power and reliability. This car with the internal cylinder damage and cracked pistons has been so reliable I don't see how much further it will go.\r
\r
Currently I'm putting together a historical video in chronological order, because it's about to get a rebuilt engine swap. It currently has a tendency to blow-by the head gasket regardless of machine work done.\r
\r
I have plans to re-paint and repair the vehicle as well as I can, and maybe even build it's current running motor into something with more tolerance and beef.\r
\r
As said before it's pretty much stock, a 2 inch lift raises the insurance by $50 per month and I removed what was their because it was a poor job done by a prior owner.\r
\r
In the first year of ownership I had to rewire the rear end and rebuild the original transmission using a reconditioned transmission as the bell-housings are different from diesel to petrol models. \r
The incorrect wiring at the rear caused the fog lamp switch to cause half the cars indicators to be on all the time, All because someone installed LED lamps incorrectly.\r
In the 2nd year a few minor oil leaks, nothing too major and I believe it was the 3rd year we had a blown head-gasket... since 2017 and 9/2019 it has had 7 head gaskets replaced, each giving us a reason to go one step further than the last.\r
\r
In the 3rd year the car almost got stolen around the time I replaced the tires, rims and done a head-gasket. I think it also was built at the start of the year to which I destroyed the head and we repaired it from home. The pistons collided with the valves Parallel, took out the caps and a few roller rocker arms. It's well designed in this instance.\r
\r
It was in it's prime in 2017 and since then the Vinyl has deteriorated... It's also revealing panel cracks in the body, and will be removed repaired and painted.\r
\r
Repair's and replacements carried out (Recent):\r
- All Brake Dumb, Pistons and Disc Calipers reconditioned\r
- Rear leaf spring suspension replaced\r
- Front Wheel well rubber flaps/guards re-manufactured\r
\r
My future plans for the vehicle are to:\r
- Rebuild front suspension when within budget\r
- Build a reliably powerful motor with economy\r
- Integrate a DPF though it's not required on this model.\r
- Replace Exhaust system\r
- Rebuild and repair Tray\r
- Repair body and respray (Update Stripes to carry the theme of being Solid and Zippy)\r
- Make custom Rocker cover and Manifolds\r
- Update/Repair interior\r
\r
Even if it's not modified like crazy, it seems too stock. I've enjoyed driving this car for both work and fun! It ain't no slouch on the roads but it's not the fastest either. How it sounds and pulls. How it feels... It's solid!\r
\r
\r
Update: As of the 20/04/2020 in South Australia, the car has been partially disassembled for testing and checking of components to be potentially reused in the recon motor.\r
\r
To note about this:\r
- Injectors have been replaced with 1780kpa as old were apparently tested as 1140kpa\r
- Turbo requires replacement due to small amount of contact against compressor housing and being to expensive to overhaul and balance.\r
- Injector Pump still works but with the replacement injectors it would not hurt to have it reconditioned.\r
\r
The recon currently sits at $5,000 AUD and requires more which is out of budget. The car will be repaired properly as a cheap $200 ebay turbo's too risky for the value of parts going into this vehicle.\r
\r
Thank you.
