Build story
People have asked me why so many times but the truth is I just love making things better, The defender started off as a old rusty discovery I had and it was slow and boring and the original 4 cylinder tdi was gutless and sounded like every other tdi and I have always loved the 12v cummins for strength, sound and power potential after seeing them in trucks as I’m from the uk and built this in the uk we don’t have Dodge Ram trucks with 12v in only bigger trucks so I bought a 7.5t horse box from a salvage yard and pulled it to pieces. After getting it in the chassis originally I was going to put the discovery body back on top but decided to make my life even more difficult by modifying it into a hybrid 100 inch defender, in the mids of all this I bought a old run down house in France to renovate so I was back and forth to work on that and the defender when I was back in the uk so I had 2 headaches on the go at once two sides of the water! I gathered all the defender parts I needed together and started building it around the engine repairing each panel as I went as defender parts don’t fit right on a defender let alone a discovery with a cummins. Once it was all in one piece I rattle can sprayed it with graffiti paint to give the satin blue finish. Then proceeded to build a side exit stainless exhaust from turbo back after flipping the manifold and turbo because it was interfering with the suspension strut, I had to rebuild the cylinder head as the gasket was blown and the valves need lapping back in and head needed skimming, while I was in there I fixed the dowl pin and rebuilt the injectors with bigger nozzles. After that I moved on to taking the air assist clutch off the truck and making that fit as well as the air emergency brake from the truck. I have build the defender from 3 different vehicles and tons of bits from other cars I have built in the past but when I moved to France late last year and transported it here it came into its own because it’s a old farm and the defender has helped me so much with the heavy lifting of renovating and pulls anything anywhere without question! Since finding DEBOSS garage on YouTube I’m loving the builds that rich does and the antics the guys get up too. Big respect to them guys. The defender is no show car it is a workhorse that does me proud and puts a smile on my face every time I turn the key and I believe that’s what it’s all about!
