Build story
The car was born in 1990 as a 5 door wagon, 3 engines later rb30, 1uz and now a td42, one body chop, a gumtree add. And im now the proud owner of a 2 door GQ\r
\r
Knowing this would be my first project car I bought it with the body chop and engine conversion done the way i like my steak, medium rare. \r
Some mates and i drove 1360km in one day to get the donk and soon realized it needed a good once over. \r
\r
Many hours of fiddling with the engine bay, setting the tappets, new brackets, new cables, changing the clutch, some spare pluming fittings to keep the intercooler topped up and a bullet shell to keep the bonnet shut, Im now confident it wont catch fire. although taking it on the beach makes my temperature gauge say otherwise.\r
\r
One of the best things about the car is the paint and body work. It turns heads, looks great, and was done by someone with a lot more patience than me, which is exactly why i take it on the hard tracks. With the new rear diff locker and winch I've managed to avoid panel damage like covid-19.\r
the GQ (y60 patrol) goes just about anywhere you point it. and if it doesn't? well a bit more right boot is enough to bounce it over.\r
\r
The donk (engine, td42) runs like 5 well oiled sewing machines with one slightly less well oiled. but once she sees 15 psi all is forgiven as the hidden horses come out to play. she still starts first crank (with a few liberal seconds of glow) and sounds better than most modern semi-trucks. \r

all in all i love this car, it keeps me busy in the shed, has an awesome driving experience and takes me places i wouldn't dream of taking most modern IFS Utes
