Build story
I had turned 16 in 2018, and I started driving in my first car, a 1986 Chevrolet Celebrity Eurosport Wagon, aka Casper because it was ghost white. I loved the car and maintained it to the best of my ability, found Rich’s YT and decided that I really really like diesels, I then wanted a 1st gen cummins, just couldn’t seem to close any deals on a few that I test drive and looked over. I then settled on a gasser. I knew I wanted a Chevy because who doesn’t, I then searched high and low for duramax trucks, couldn’t find any that weren’t beat to hell for my price range, so I bought my 2000 unicorn Silverado. They only made this drivetrain combo in 99 and 2000 (all iron engine, full float rear, no HD badges, extended crankshaft). It was 6400 bucks, clean interior, clean exterior, and the best part was no rust, as I live in Ohio and we just absolutely love salt on our roads, so a clean body was a miracle. I had it for about 2 months, and then a city garbage truck hit it on the street and totaled it. The only damage was to the cab corner and front and rear right doors, but like Vice Grip says, it doesn’t matter because it’s for cornering faster. I then used some of the payout money to buy a few mods, but bumpers, new wheels and tires, a decent radio and speakers, front end parts. After all of the hours spent behind the wheel, the days spent cleaning and repairing the truck, I am proud to own and drive it. I have named it Bocephus, after Hank Williams Jr. (although war rig is more fitting in this time of “crisis”). She will be getting a Cummins shortly, just going through the cost and time it will take. I hope to be the first to ditch the all iron 6.0 in this body style, to double my MPG.
