1976 VW Beetle, Buggy

Buggy Frame, Aftermarket ECU, Different Fuel System, Different Oil Cool and Filter, etc.

This project started out as just a way to get into working on cars. I started it less than 2 years ago when I was in high school. The project is now nearing completion (as if it will ever be done) and runs and drives. Still being in school working on a project like this meant the budget was very low. I started by getting the frame and an old VW beetle that was wrecked and sat for 20 years. The frame had to be completely changed and the engine was completely rebuilt. The VW had an old 1970s fuel injection system that I took off and replaced with the cheapest ECU. To save money, I reused a lot of old Honda Civic parts and sensors to get the engine to run with the new ECU. I did almost all the fabrication work myself. Any piece that didn't have a mount, I fabricated something or designed and 3D printed a custom bracket. Currently, I am making side panels, fine tuning the engine, and 3D printing speaker holders.
