Build story

When I was 14 i bought a pile of garbage green 1977 ford highboy. Looking back it was about the worst example of a truck, but it was $1300 and I wanted it. My plan was to just fix it up and drive it and have some fun. Well the next day I said screw it and started to tear it down to restore it. I had never done anything like this before other than tinkering with tractors and mowers. I did every piece of work on the truck myself, except for I had the engine swap driveshaft made for it. It took me about 2 years to restore the truck without the swap. I had touched every panel with metal work and body work. I finished the restoration and i drove it for a week, and was over the gas motor, ran like crap, low on power, terrible mileage (5mpg). So the next week my brother, best friend and I went to Vermont to get an obs 7.3. It took me about 6 months to do the swap. Physically it fits good, but everything relating to the engine has to be changed. But it gets 15mpg now and sounds sweet, plus a lot of power. I did all the work in half of a two car garage or my side yard, even the paint. It's been a long road but driving it and being able to call it all mine is worth it. While the restoration cost a lot, the engine swap was cheap. After selling parts and the old motor, I was only into the 7.3 for $200. Plus other small things, it probably cost about $1500 for the swap alone. Thanks, enjoy all the other cool rides!
