Build story

This is my 1971 International Harvester Scout 800B. I bought this truck at an estate auction last fall for 900 bucks. I bought the Scout because I have always had a fascination with them. Growing up, I was always into tractors. My dad took me to a junkyard when I was a little kid and he showed me a scout and told me what it was and said it was made by International. I was blown away by the fact that a tractor company made a vehicle, I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I promised myself that one day I would own one. It took me a long time, but I finally found this one at the auction. The entire passenger side rocker was missing, but the previous owner (who was a metal worker) made all new floor pans for it. It wasn't structurally compromised by rust like most of the ones I had looked at. I ended up cutting a rocker panel out of a junkyard scout and used part of it to put in place of the old one. I cut up an old silo pipe and used the metal to patch all the rust holes on the body. Mechanically, the scout is all stock. It has an AMC 232 inline six with a 4 speed transmission. It runs and drives good. The only mechanical work I had to do is replace the fuel pump, front brake pads, fuel lines, breaker points, and I rebuilt the Carburetor. I plan on keeping the Scout as stock as I can to preserve it's history. I have original paperwork saying the scout was sold new to a man in Madison, Wisconsin which is not far from me. It is amazing that it lived all it's life in south central Wisconsin and it is still in decent shape. Overall, I am happy with the project. Thanks for reading this and considering me for the show.
