Build story

Imagine 3 course meal, made entirely from leftovers in the fridge, prepared hastily, with little if any thought as to what the end result would be.\r
\r
That is this car.\r

I've had several turbo Tercels in the past and they're always pretty cheap and cheerful. This particular one was an idea that came up on a particularly long road trip with a new co worker. A couple of days driving around in the woods in New Brunswick will do that. After some time and discussing warious builds we had done and the parts we had around, it was concluded that we had everything to build a junky turbo car ... except the car. Naturally when starting a project like this, you want to choose the best possible platform. Instead we elected to buy the cheapest Toyota Tercel we could find in the span of a week. This is what we ended up with. The worlds finest, 500,000km, former drivers ed car, former field car, sitting flat on the ground with no wheels, and window in the block. From the seller "I think it might need a motor, it had a knock", yeah buddy, thanks for the heads up. Luckily it came with a "good" motor.... carefully stored under the tattered remains of what used to be a tarp, laying on its side, beside the shed. Awesome. $200, good enough.\r
\r
Using all leftover parts, it was assembled over the course of a long weekend with all the junk we had around, and a couple quick trips to the parts store.\r
\r
Initially we ran 5 psi and the results, although fun were lack luster, some more street tuning eventually had it running 18 (and now 20) psi and a best 1/4 mile time of 14.56 at 98mph ... all with the stock, worn out, automatic trans.\r
\r
Its also seen service on the woods roads, although the 1980's style turbo lag and power delivery can create some unique situations.\r
\r
Planned for this year is a manual swap, fix some of the rust holes, 5EFHE with WEPR front facing manifold and larger turbo, used Hot bits coilovers that looks like they're from the wreck of the Titanic and 3 time recycled racing seats from the Matt Barnes rally Paseo, and 4 wheel disc brakes with rx7 calipers.
