Build story
Originally fitted with a 2.4Lt 4 Cylinder carburetor engine & a 5-Speed manual transmission, the drive train was swapped out for 302 Windsor & a Ford AOD 4-speed auto transmission. Wasn't long before the differential gave up and said time out when a Nissan Patrol rear differential was fitted up. A 9" was not an option as the van had to retain the 6 stud bolt pattern to match the front wheels. Whilst this might not seem such an outrageous engine swap by some peoples standards, the van is 100% engineered for use on public roads which here in Australia [in particular Victoria] is not an easy, or cheap, undertaking. All work was done as a owner/builder with the help of a borrowed workshop hoist from time to time. The intention was to not make it obvious that it is heavily modified and keep the "sleeper" look so basic steel wheels where modified to be 8" out the back and 6.5" up front, a single 3" muffled exhaust system was added and zero internal modifications other than fitting a auto transmission selector from an automatic transmission variant of the same model.
