Build story
I bought the suburban in 2005 with a 6.5 diesel in order to run it on vegetable oil. In 2012 the crankshaft broke and block cracked so after much research I opted for a 4bt. It took me 3 months to find a motor and a couple of weeks to build it in. I redid the gaskets and seals before putting it in but didn't take the head off. The suburban was drive by wire so I welded an extra arm onto the throttle pedal to pull on the mechanical throttle and the electronic part still sent a signal to the transmission controller. I got a cruise control module off a gas vehicle and got that wired up and working. I used the stock GMC radiator and added an electric fan, which has never needed to run. A small intercooler between the engine and radiator adds quite a bit of power. I did a 1.5 inch body lift to make room for the turbo tubing. Last fall the motor had so much blowby that we had to park it. We went south for the winter and just got back. We just took the engine out to rebuild it and hope to have it running again in the next couple of weeks. \r

We spend about 4 months every year travelling as a family. Twice we towed the suburban all the way to Belize and back. You are welcome to check out our adventures here. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTHKk_-8JIFdfb88dOM_Lzg/videos
