Build story

Bought it off a retired fire chief and then I burnt out the trans almost immediately so I tried selling it to a friend. Squirrels had nested in the engine and tore up all the hood insulation which melted alot of the clear coat on the hood and they shat a bunch on the top of the motor so you couldnt drive with the heat on so I didnt see this things full beauty. After it sat in the guys parking spot for a year I got it back and managed to get it moving long enough to park it at the transmission shop I was co-opping at for highschool. I replaced my forward clutches and got it running MINT. I took apart my intake and cleaned out the engine bay to get rid of the smell. Then I decided to start making the body look nice by cleaning it up, touching up parts where the paint or fake chrome came off, etc. I painted the fake chrome on the front that was peeling off and the bumper black with rust paint to clean it up then decided to do all the bottom grey trim aswell. I kept the rear bumper chrome to flex how clean it was and threw some reflective tape and the old badges from my old 1990 Isuzu Trooper so people know who theyre dealing with.\r

After doing my tranny I found that my trans cooler somehow let atf get in my radiator. Luckily for me Ol' Chief Bob King put an exterior cooler on but never bipassed the lines, so I did. I gave it an extra leaf on the back to achieve strength and stink bug stance which along with the 30.7" Cooper Discoverers it has the thing stands proud. I hated the sound of the notoriously loud fan the Ranger has so with pipe from China Wheel and a sawzall I cut my muffler off (leaving a resonator and a cat) and threw a tailpipe right out the side for style. Afterwards you could hear the pungent Cologne V6 clearly but never enough to warrant complaints. That is, until my exhaust manifold finally decomposed on me this winter.\r
\r
The engine is the immaculate 4.0L OHV V6 which was a pushrod motor and stopped being made in the late 90s which means parts are impossible to find in the rust belt of Canadastan. Its bone stock apart from the jb weld I applied on the valve cover. The driver side valve cover began rotting away and leaking oil all onto everything and onto my spark plugs which began loosening themselves and blowing up into the holes causing a slight misfire and noticable shake every once in a while. My alternator and wiper motor went on me once and I blew a powersteering hose when I put brake fluid in its motor. \r
\r
The tranny is the A4LD which shifts perfect everytime and has the response time of a house fly on speed attatched to a transfer case that engages hard but goes hard too.\r
\r
The 4x4 has manual locking hubs which just work mint in the wintertime.\r

After wondering why my truck had become so bouncy I found that my driver side shock had broken off at the bottom so a couple months later I decided to out new stock shocks in and while doing so the passenger side shock bracket stud broke on me and I never fixed it so for many months the shock has just loosely sat on half of a stud and I havnt had a single problem\r
\r
The lights are all kinds of fucked right now. When I first got it fixed my only issue was that I had broken my reverse safety switch so the reverse lights came on while I was in drive. But then my headlights started going completely out for no reason and my signals either didnt work, stayed on, or only flashed the brake lights which are so dim that you cant tell when Im braking. Its whatever though I can see just fine\r
\r
There were 2 bad rust spots when I got it and 2 small ones now that are relatively under control and hard to see. The top of the bed walls are dented and scratched but the really bad parts were repainted\r

Its my first truck Ive been able to get safetied and is beyond reliable considering what Ive put into it. Despite needing to top up every fluid and plug my starter back in once in a while, it always rips and always gets the job done. Its gone from a firetruck to a fire hazard but at the end of the day is the essential Ford Ranger and a great vehicle
