I originally had a 2005 gallant we were gonna use to race but 3 days before the race the motor blew so I found a 2004 sonata with 103378 miles on it for 280 dollars so I needed a car and had a 300 dollar budget as we were loading the car into the trailer to bring it home we noticed a big puddle of fluid under the motor and thought the worse luckily it was just power steering fluid. we brought the car home the next day and had exactly 53 hours to make this into a race car and get it to the track. We first had to gut the car and fix the power steering so what do we do we take fuel line off a beat up lawn tractor and guess what it worked and those were our power steering lines. Next we had to put a roll cage and cover the sunroof ( we used a dryer door) we then had to replace the tire that was bald and with 3 hours to spare we finished the car before we had to have it to the track. We entered the car into Crash-A-Rama. We entered the OG sonata into the boat and trailer race and a flag pole race. After starting 2 in a 10 lap 26 car race and getting spun around on the 6th lap and dropped all the way back to 12th we made it back up to 4 to finish the race even though we lost the rear bumper the car was running great. Next up was the boat and trailer race we were a bit scared for this race since our 2.7 l v6 was gonna be towing a 21 foot boat around the track for 10 laps we lined up for the race and the car alarm started going off when we popped the hood to check the fluids. We had this problem a few times before but we thought we fixed it some how the car alarm got hooked up to go off anytime the hood opened (we will just say we planned it so people would not look at our setup) but back to the race we started 10th and we soon realized we were gonna be in deep trouble as we lined up to all other boats only being like 12 feet, we were definitely the under dog. Don’t be worried the OG sonata didn’t disappoint we finished 4th even though as I was driving I had the pedal all the way to the floor and the RPMs around 5k I couldn’t get over 40 mph, even though during the flag pole race I was pushing 100 mph. The OG Sonata finished both races and only lost a bumper the car is so mint it could be road legal (well maybe only in Ohio since they don’t have inspection) this car is in the mintiest of mint condition all this was done with my two best friends Jonah and Brion we are also only 19 years old. Other noticeable things is when ever you put the turn signal on the door chime comes on also don’t open the hood unless the the car has been locked with the key fob or else the car alarm goes off even though there are not any locks in the car. Even the AC stills blows super cold. The windshield wipers work but they only have one speed and that’s super fast on the pristine windshield it doesn’t even have a crack in it. Oh and you can’t forget one speaker in the car still works and sounds amazing. The car still only has 103403 miles on it. Not only do you have to crawl Threw a window to get in since none of the doors open. Also please don’t touch the bumper it might fall off as it’s only held on by hot glue and zip ties. First we started with a 500 dollar budget to get a car boat and into the races and after getting a free car and boat the first car blew the engine so we had to buy a 280 dollar car and when the race was over we scraped the first car sold the boat trailer and even sold the boat motor we made a whopping 356 dollars and made a lot of memories.
