Build story
Many years ago I owned a 1987 Chevy K1500 with a crate 350 and I had to sell it due to unforeseen circumstances and it turns out to be the biggest regret I have ever had. With that said 3 years ago I decided to buy another 87 Chevy and this time it will be buried next to me when I pass on! I have been rebuilding engines since I was 6yrs old and have over 15yrs experience in autobody and with that knowledge I knew I could easily do all the work I would have to do with no help from anyone. \r
In October of 2017 I bought a rotted out but running 1987 V20 6.2L diesel 4x4 with a utility bed for $3,500. After driving it for awhile I eventually caught a bad case of the diesel bug at which time I knew I needed MORE power. After watching MANY of Deboss Garage and Power Driven Diesel videos I decided to find a fairly cheap 12 valve P-pump Cummins so I could swap out my very tired 300,000+ mile naturally aspirated 6.2L Detroit dog of a diesel. Then I figured well I have gone this far so why not restore the truck body and suspension back to its original condition along with a few upgrades. Once I swapped the engines I then swapped out the utility bed for a fleet side. A few months after that I rebuilt most of the cab and few months after that I had enough money saved to closely finish the rest of the truck. Total cost for the Restomod was approximately $38,000. YES I know what you might say about it but remember this is still a ongoing project and will be for many years to come!
