Build story
1968 Buick Skylark Convertible has been in the family since new. Car used to be my grandfather’s and was most recently owned by my Uncle until he passed away. It has sentimental value, and I’m hoping to keep it in good shape for many years to come.\r
\r
Car has the original Buick 350 (not a Chevy 350), which I converted to a 4bbl carburetor using an aluminum TA Performance Stage 1 intake. I think I saved close to 45 lbs removing the old 2bbl cast iron manifold. Engine is otherwise stock and running strong. I did this in tandem with the transmission below, since I was only able to find 4bbl carb adapters for the TV kick down cable to work with the 200-4r.\r
\r
The car used to have a leaky 2-spd Super Turbine 300 transmission. It needed a rebuild and as I wanted something with overdrive for highway cruising, I picked up a 200-4r from a junkyard (reportedly out of an ’86 Cutlass). This was to be rebuilt by a friend of a friend and after a few hiccups he had it installed. Unfortunately the car still leaks ATF, but I’m hoping to take care of that this summer. Car has made many road trips around the Golden Horseshoe and hasn't failed me yet.\r
\r
The car has had some other minor things changed since I’ve owned it, including ball joints, tie-rod ends, anti-sway bar links, addition of a rear anti-sway bar, a new exhaust, and a RetroSound radio. Car is rolling around on American Racing AR23 15x7 wheels with BF Goodrich Radials (of course).\r
\r
Next on the to-do list: Brakes! The car stops, but it stops like a 50-year old car with 4-wheel drum brakes. Hoping to pick up a disc conversion kit for the front and possibly the back and redo the whole brake system. Being from Ontario, it also needs a bit of rust repair, but it’s not in bad shape, as it’s been undercoated and was repainted once in the 90’s.
