Build story
Well where I’m from the salt has them destroyed and there is maybe 3 left that’s on the road that anyone knows about, mine being the cleanest example. It’s a unique car 31 years later since everyone their pet goldfish had an accord or a Honda product back in the day and they’re now unfortunately mostly extinct. This car came from my relatives dealership “Gil Wilken Honda” back in the day, and was Purchased on April 1st 1990 in St. John’s Newfoundland. Story goes a husband wanted to surprise his wife with a brand new car, and what better way with the newest model accord! She drove it up until she passed away in 2007 from cancer, where it was promptly parked in their garage. Until 2019 where I seen it listed on the local buy and sale. I knew right away this is what I wanted since everyone in my family had one back in the day, and it was in such great shape. So I rented a uhaul and drove my truck 5 hours away to pick it up. The exhaust fell off, leaked oil really bad, the brakes were bad (none at all) the power steering leaked, it smelled of old man couch, it was just horrible everyone thought, I did too at the time. So I load it up and truck home another 5 hours, the whole round trip was about 19 hours as soon as I dropped off the trailer at the uhaul dealer and crashed on my bed. The next morning I go outside and think, what a waste of $600 oh my. First turn of the key she fired up so I knew then I had a potential runner. So I ordered all the parts I would need, full exhaust from the Block back, bushings, CV axles since both boots were ripped on both shafts, loads of gaskets, timing and water pump kit, I got lucky with the brakes, there was all brand new rear hardware in the trunk, cables, backing plates, wheel cylinders, the works, just had to buy new drums since the original ones were literally falling apart. After about 2 weeks of steady repair I got her inspected and on the road on my brothers birthday. At the time she was at 201,000km, now she’s at 226,000 and during the 25,000 I put on she’s been trouble free. 10 1300km round trips to the city, highway driving twice a week for school to the furthest town over, work, you name it I drove there. Through all the jiggs and reels she’s sitting in my garage right now, in storage because I’m definitely trying to save this car, as dumb as trying to save an old Honda might be, it’s no 1970 Camaro or 64 1/2 mustang but it’s my little slice of retro transportation, it’s a really really great summer cruiser believe me, for a Honda, it rides like a boat, a grand marquis type ride oddly enough. I have a $1,400 rockauto order waiting for me right now, all new KYB struts, control arms and ball joints, ignition components, fuel filter, and many many more. Thanks for reading Derek (if you do) or whoever does, love your content and I would be so thrilled if this got featured!! Much Love from Newfoundland, Canada.
