In the power barn you’ll find a mild 1972 forged crank motorhome 440, backed by a beefed up 727 auto. And sending power out back to a modified Cuda 8-3/4 with sure grip and 3.91’s. Rear leafs were changed to 1971 style springs to ditch the isolator bushings used by the factree. Brakes are stock 11” front discs and a rear uses disc brake swap. Tires are Radial T/A’s on aluminum slots. Customs paint and bodywork was carefully crafted from 44 years of whiskey dents and gentle use. Well until I got her.
Build story
Think of her as a muscle era Dodge Charger wrapped in a disco era leisure suit, or a General Montalbon if you will. She’s the homage to the dreams I had for my first car and high school ride. That car was my one and only for almost ten years and became synonymous with me and who I was. Almost everyone that knew me had a story to tell about my first one. Sadly it succumbed to the year round use and died of terminal body rot. One of my best friends that was there to help my build my first Doba found this one for me while walking blocks from his home. Together we dragged her home and over the following few months we built her up and got her back on the road after sitting as someone else’s stalled project. The interior had a tired velour bench and column shifter. But in the the spirit of Ricardo Montalbon and his immortal words “fine Corinthian leather” bucket seats with a console and floor shifter were installed. She’s nothing super special to most people but a toy built on a tight budget.
