Build story

I am the second owner of this “revived” 1996 F-150 4.9L (300) 2WD (posi ??) Auto pick up. Bought it in September of 2020 off the original owner who bought it new at (named at the time) Beothuk Ford in Grand Falls, Newfoundland Canada. The floors were rotted out, had a really bad misfire, the bed was shot, didn’t sit right, and the list goes on. But she did have all new brake lines, starter, all new brakes, and all brand new Ford shackles waiting to be put on. Oh an the E40D shifts smooth as butter so I was sold, and it also having the gutless 300 straight 6. It took me one solid month to revive this truck. For $250 bucks I got 2 mint rust free front fenders, 2 “heavy duty” leaf packs, a rust free bed, tailgate, and a few other odds and ends, along with new shocks, cab corner, filters, and a few other small things off rock auto. The first order of business was to remove the bed, easier said than done but a few of my buddies came done and made short work. I got a hammer and a large flat head and beat all the scale off the chassis (I literally used all hand tools besides a grinder and welder for this project) and took some DOM16 (Napa Canada POR15 equivalent) and painted her solid. “Refurbished” the filler necks, painted the drums, tanks, floors, rockers, I beams, everything that was metal got painted since her only purpose was going to be a winter driver while my summer car is in storage. While working on my new bed I had to weld in another fuel door because this one only had one which was a pain in the hole but hey I’m a backyard engineer so I got this. New bed ribs made at the local machine shop, and I’m in business. After the bed is mounted now comes paint time. I said shag a okay paint job, sanded the whole truck with an 80 grit palm sander and got a dozen cans of bed liner (spray stuff) from Canadian tire and in an hour I had a truck that was one solid colour. And the next day after putting the front clip back together, setting everything up I rolled her out of the shed and took her for a ride. It didn’t help that the #6 injector was clogged solid and the EGR wasn’t working but a delete here and a few cans of seafoam and supreme + some hard driving here fixed that. Oh yeah a few months later I painted the dumpers and rims in the middle of the driveway with some “Newfie chrome” aka tremclad rust gloss aluminum paint. Mmmm perfect. As she sits right now she’s perfect. She hauls my 1997 Arctic Cat cougar 550 liquid around nicely, has that typical OBS Ford bumper sag, and the steering box could use a tweak but she’s a perfect daily driver. When the summer comes I’m going todo more body work, actually paint the bumpers and rims properly this time and send her all the way. Ole peg down in G-Dale (Zipties and bias plies) would be proud of my cost effective “ehh f it” efforts. Thanks everyone, love your content, much love from Newfoundland, and as the ole saying goes, Yes b’y knows your mudder wouldn’t want ya to be at that, well there’s about a 1000 dumb sayings down on the rock but that’s just one. Currently 2:05 am. Chao!
