Build story
Bought all the turbo gear and B20 intending to put it in my 93 Del Sol, and I needed T bracket, trans and axles. Put out a feeler for a parts Integra and bought this one sight unseen for 1,000 bucks. I lived in rural Northern Nevada so it was dumb luck i even found one local. It ended up being a much nicer car altogether than the Sol, so I felt bad parting it out/scrapping it, so I slapped all the turbo gear on the stock b18b with 219k miles.
When I had the pan off for the turbo drain I found corn flake sized bearing chunks in the oil, so i threw it together with no IC or wastegate, and ripped it for like a week trying to blow it up. It didn't, so i put the wastegate and IC on it, and then drove it for 2,500 more miles @10psi on my own haggard street tune.
That motor still ran without making a sound when I moved to southern UT, but had started to smoke a little. I still had the B20 sitting so I finally swapped it, and have been ripping around since.
Never touched a dyno but I'd guess it's at 220-230whp. Fast enough to bully a late WRX, 3v Mustang, etc lol. When I get the b18b refreshed for a spare, I'll turn it up and try for a more aggressive tune.
This was my first ever real build, first car I swapped the engine in. Turned every bolt 100% alone. As such, plenty of stuff got half assed and the car will be able to grow with me as I get more money up and become a better mechanic.
As my mod list shows, I think I'm all in 2,500-3k, even after the b20 swap. Budget was absolutely the biggest driving factor. I wanted solid fueling/management, or I could have saved probably 400-500 bucks, more if I had gone with cheap mechanical gauges. Living in the sticks, i had no choice but to buy everything new online, did the best I could with what I had.
In Vegas or SoCal i have no doubt i could build this car again for half what I spent. It's another world when you have 10 homies to bum parts off of or can buy used.
Anyway I hope you guys like the build and like the story behind it. It's obviously a very basic setup on the easiest platform ever, but that was the point, I wanted to go fast for cheap and I succeeded in that, something I wouldn't have to cry if I broke it or messed up something. I think that's important for a first build and I would (and do) recommend anybody who wants to learn find a similar formula.
I owe almost everything I know to the Hondatech forums and this car, and it has given me the confidence I needed to do much more.
