Build story

I bought the car October 2018 for $400 from someone that gave up on fixing it. It was sitting under a tree for 3 years with no engine and torn to pieces. Since there wasn't an engine I figured the most logical thing to do would be to find a LS to swap into it. I managed to find a gen 3 LM7 from an older guy that had it sitting on an engine stand for a few years before deciding efi was too difficult. I brought the engine home and started tearing into the engine to install the Sloppy Stage 2 cam and pac 1218 springs. My original plan was to just be a cam only swap, but one thing led to another and I ended up ordering a turbo from VS Racing. I bought a tig welder and starting watching YouTube videos on how to tig weld stainless and aluminum tubing and was able to confobble a turbo kit together. After getting the turbo all situated I realized I needed a way to make the engine run, so I went with the Holley HP. After I had the engine all sorted I finally was able to find a T56 and I was able to get it mounted into the car. I was finally able to drive the RX7 for the first time in summer of 2019. At first everything was great, was running 10lbs of boost on pump gas and was having a blast, the bad part was the car smoked horribly. Fast forward to winter 2019 and I pulled the LM7 and tore the heads off for the first time to see that there wasn't any cross hatching in the cylinders. I then had to find another engine and was able to find a aluminum 5.3 out of a 2009 Tahoe. I tore it down to a bare block and ran a ball hone in each cylinder. After getting a decent crosshatch I cleaned the pistons and put a new set of rings with a very slight gap filled into them. Threw in a set of new rod bearings and some head studs and called the engine good. With the engine out of the car I convinced a painter friend to paint my engine bay a Ford black metallic. I got the new engine in and had to switch some wiring around on my Holley harness to make it work on the gen 4 engine. Spring of 2020 came and I decided to switch to e85 and up the boost and man what a difference from 10lb to 17lbs . With the RX7 running great I decided it was time to try my hand at auto x. Luckily I was able to go to 15 auto x last year and everytime I went to one I realized I needed something else for the car. What went from being a fun street car has slowly transformed into a more track oriented car.
