Build story

Around the beginning of my senior year of high school, I picked this 78' F-150 from a neighbor for around $500. I live in Mid-Missouri, so these trucks were everywhere but a lot of them have either rotted out, or recently, someone has been snagging all the trucks for restoration and resale. It was originally meant to be a parts truck for my 72' F-100 as the rear end on the 72's for that generation were a one time thing and hard to get parts for (The 9-3/8" instead of the 9 inchers). That still hasn't happened yet, as I fell in love with it as soon as I got it home. For the most part, its a pretty clean truck, the neighbor had taken really good care of it, and it really hasn't been abandoned except for maybe the last 8 years since he had passed. It has a 400 in it with a standard 2 barrel motorcraft carb. In one of the pictures you can actually see a red boat tank that I had used to get fuel to the truck and get it started it initially, as the solenoid in the back of the truck -its has a auxiliary and primary fuel tank- was frozen and I didn't beat on it till later to get it working. Once it got fuel, it started right up, drove it around a bit with that boat tank in the hood. Unfortunately it is an Auto, but all gears work and runs and drives normally. Power steering pump was toast and brake booster was rusted to all hell. Only things I have done to it, is new power steering and a new brake booster and master cylinder. She runs and drives no problem, brakes work great -it does have discs in the front- and is otherwise a solid vehicle, with a clean title and a owner's manual that still in great condition that I found in the glove box. I haven't got new plates on her yet, as I'm still not sure what I want to do with it, if I want to daily drive it or maybe still use as a parts truck.
