The Volvo 240 platform forever immortalized the safety and ingenuity of today's modern cars, being the car that introduced proper 3pt seat belts, collapsible steering columns, crumple zones, and collapsible engine mounts. It did this so well in fact, that it was used by the NTHSA as the STANDARD that all cars follow to this very day. It still maintains it's title as the safest pre-airbag car ever produced.
