Mods
Engine swap-bd30 with a 2260 Variable geometry turbo and 12mm injection pump.
I raptor linered the engine bay and made my own Stainless steel exhaust.
Gearbox is from a gq patrol (the rd28 model with the terrano 2 r20 bellhousing)
HOPEFULLY SOON
Stainless snorkel, GQ patrol axles (coil on the front and leaf in the back) with factory locker in the rear converted to pressure, 35& tires, engine driven air compressor, custom radiator, bull bar and sliders (hopefully fender protections as well, my country doesn#039;t really allow them), front and rear winch.
MAYBE?
Front locker and reduction gears
UPDATES:
Solid axle swap (front and rear).
Coil springs in the front, leafs in the back with custom made shackles.
Steering box swap from nissan patrol y61
Factory rear locker
Disc brakes front and rear
Air compressor with air tank
Stainless snorkel

Build story
As you can see the car runds and drives, but the build is far from finished but i wanted to upload it here because it#039;s something that really means a lot to me.
This is basically the car that got me into the whole mechanic world and i feel like i learned so much working on it. Not only about cars but also about me and what i can actually make with my own hands. It wasan#039;t my first swap, but it was the first one that involved some actual mods.
About the car: I got it for free from a friend, since his uncle wanted to scrap it.
When i first got it it was in very bad conditions, the stock engine was leaking oil from both the crank seals and basically every single gasket and seal.
Somehow i got a GREAT deal on a bd30, which is basically a td27 on steroids and i decided to go on with the swap.
For those who don#039;t know It#039;s a 3 liter factory turbo, direct injection with a mechanical injection pump.
I ended up swapping the turbo with a big variable geometry from an Iveco and got some work done on the pump as well from someone who is actually a professional.
The gearbox was fine but 5th wasn#039;t always too happy so i decided to go ahead and swap the patrol gearbox in order to have the transfer case in the right position for the front axle (for an eventual axle swap)
The swap was done working on the floor of my garage on my own and it wasn#039;t fun. If you don#039;t know much about hardbody/navara, they have torsion bars that needs to be removed to pull the gearbox so the car was on jacks as well. Not the smaterst thing in the world but i survived so that#039;s great, right?
The rear rails of the frame are half rotten but the plan is not only to fix them but also
reinforce them with some laser cut plates, wich it will probably be done by the time you#039;ll read this.
Sadly the car is now somewhere else so i can#039;t work on it, but the good news is that it#039;s not here because it#039;s getting the solid axle swap. I had to let a professional do it because i actually want the thing to go straight you know...
the future plan is to fix all the rust holes in the cab, widen the fenders (the axles are about 12cm larger than the factory rear axle), paint it all with the raptor and then start with the much needed mods to make it an actual 4wd you can rely if you want to go in some very remote places.
The plan here would be to make all the bar work, stainless snorkel, a belt driven air compressor with a tank, front and rear winch and much more.
The dream would be to travel the world with this car once is finished, australia is definitely on the top of my list but the fact that i live on the exact opposite side of the world (italy) is not really going to make it easy for me
UPDATES:
The car is actually 90% finished as you can see. The whole suspension system has been completely renewed with the axle swap, the frame has been completely restored and reinforced. It's definitely stiff on the road because of the leaf springs in the back but off road it's extremely capable. Those axles have a facrory rear locker that works with negative pressure. The actuator has been converted to positive pressure and i'm using an air compressor for actually actuating it. The air tank lines and locker lines are actually separated, so that if i have a leak inthe tank the locker still works.
I've recently spent hundreds of hours fixing the rust and painting it. It was a homemade paint job and definitely didn't end up being perfect but i couldn't be happier about the result.

I "stumbled" across your project when I was looking for information about the engine swap for a D21. I happened to be working on exactly the same conversion and would like to find out more. Have you made any other changes? What improvements are necessary or what have you made? You can reach me at "overlandereast"at"gmail.com".
