Build story
This is the first car I bought. I turned 18 and saved up from my summer job with some of my graduation money. Over the years it has seen a couple different changes. It had a caprice grille, ‘52 Chevy grille, ‘47 Chevy, now it has the correct ‘48 Pontiac grille. I searched for 5 years to find one. This was also the only car I had for awhile, so it was daily driven throughout the entire year. It’s seen anything from pouring rain, sun-zero temperatures, to full on blizzard. The ‘48 sees about 6-8 states a year going to shows. The odometer hasn’t worked in a couple years but it’s safe to say it’s closing in on 100k. I have lived in Wi for about 7 years, my brother lives in Iowa, and my parents live in Illinois. It isn’t uncommon to just jump in the ‘48 and spend a weekend to see them. There are a million stories to choose from but if there is one to talk about it’s what happened last year. My grandma passed away while I was starting to tear apart the car for it’s 4th transformation. I just bought a winter beater but wasn’t registered and didn’t want to risk taking it over state lines. So in the beginning of January I took the ‘48 to Chicago in 20 degrees with no heat. It wasn’t the way I wanted to spend my birthday but it helped get me through it. Also, I did a burnout in remembrance of her and my grandpa. On the way home I hit a piece of road debris that punctured a hole in the radiator. Luckily, it was so cold it never over heated until I pulled into my apartment complex. So I called up a buddy and rented out a garage spot for a weekend in March. We rebuilt the radiator support, new radiator, electric fans, the grille I’ve been searching for for 5 years, and new bumpers in one weekend. On that Sunday I drove it down to Chicago and back for world of wheels to see the kookie T and the Beatnick Bandit as a treat for myself.
