Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, Holley 4160 series carb., headers, dual exhaust, rally wheels with newer oem trim rings. Basic 307 is stock otherwise. 4160 has performed flawlessly since 1991. Body work was next in line.
Build story
Grandfather bought this El Camino new in 1977. After he passed in 1983, my father inherited it. In 1988, my dad gave it to me with 32k miles on it. In 1991, i made most of the modifications. All repairs and maintenance done by my grandfather, my father, or me. Now has over 150k miles on it. Was my daily driver until 2002. Has been kept in dry storage and driven occasionally to keep it limber. Still runs great.
Had planned to retire in 2012 and start on restoration. In 2011 I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma from Agent Orange exposure in Vietnam. The cancer (type of bone cancer) destroyed my body, preventing me from working on it. I keep it in dry storage and still cruise occasionally. Such a fun vehicle to drive with strong sentimental value.
Been in remission since 2015, but kind of a physical wreck. Still can drive. Just hope nothing breaks on it! I know these mid 1970's El Camino's are not liked by most, but I still enjoy it. Kind of wish grandfather had bought a 1970 - 1972 El Camino, though! ?
