Build story
This late 1965-ish Raleigh Runabout Deluxe was brought over from the UK to Ontario by my Grandma's family in the late 60's. It features an air-cooled single cylinder engine good for about 0.6 hp or so (in 1960). It hadn't been used since the 1980's, and was in need of some work. My grandfather (who was the last regular owner) was liked to tinker, but the overall fit and finish of his repairs weren't the greatest. The wiring was a nightmare and the control cables weren't complete.
Starting in Feb 2020, I tore the bike down and replaced a number of components and restored others to bring it back to reliable working condition. The engine received new gaskets, spark plug, and a carb rebuild. Next I refurbished the fuel tank using some KBS products, as it had significant rust inside after sitting empty for so long. I completely rewired and loomed the engine harness, horn, headlight, and tail/brake lights. The bike also received new retro-style moped tires from the UK, and brand new motorcycle-grade cables for the brakes, choke, throttle, and decompressor.
All-in-all, it's running great now, and is a pretty rare piece to see in Canada.
