12v ve cummins swap. Homemade adapter plate. 1st gen flywheel and sachs pressure plate. Custom ceramic disk. 6.0 powerstroke starter. Dual electric fans. Homemade front engine mount brackets. Muffler from tr85 new holland combine.

Build story

We werent happy with the performance and the thirst of the original 366 gas engine so we did this swap in 2008. The engine was purchased used off of ebay from a rusted out first gen dodge. An adapter plate was built from scratch out of 5/8 steel plate and the 366 bellhousing, centered with a dial indicator mounted on the crank. We originally adapted the 366 gm flywheel clutch and starter onto the cummins and it worked ok for a couple of years but under heavy load the clutch would slip and the high torque delco gas starter would struggle to spin fast enough in colder weather. We then used the first gen flywheel and pp and got a custom cermaic button disk made to match the splines from the truck trans. A 6.0 starter was also purchased and mounts to a homemade boss on the adapter plate. This swap really makes this truck into and excellent around the farm grain hauler. Even as a stock 160hp engine it vastly outperforms the 366 gas. Max speed is about 95 to 100kms due to the gas engine gearing but around the farm and on the back roads it is just fine for us like that.

I’m doing this current build now with a 1977 and a 366. What did you use for engine mounting?

Hi. we made brackets that bolt to the front sides of the block and then used first gen rubber mounts that sit on top of the original front cross member
