Build story
This is our Covid Mad Max tribute project. My son and I built from all scrap metal that we had on hand. When covid landed us all at home, instead of doing nothing we decided to see what we could build for the sand dunes using only what we had on hand. The Tahoe was in a collision rollover that we bought for the motor/trans pre covid. I cut the top off so we could open the doors to drive it around our woods. I had covered the engine with an old grain truck hood that I had been keeping, and the idea was born.
We fabricated front end from a 47 4400 Grain Truck widend 12 inches, the grill was made using an international combine thrasher wheel and rebar, the functional hood scoop is from a farmall tractor gas tank cut in half, the terminator skull we 3d printed and cast with recycled aluminum. The roll cage was fabricated using our homemade pipe bender. the gids ground off all the paint and forced rusted the whole rig with vinegar and peroxide. It took us around 6 weeks to build with less than 1000 budget. We drove it every weekend at the silver lake sand dunes and received a amazing amount of attention and following. We did suffer a major brake down when the g80 gears exploded that took out the rear end drive shaft and transfer case. Amazingly one of our fans donated a 2001 tahoe so we did a chassis swap mid season. We had an amazing time! We have it torn apart right put new rings and add a cam and turbo’s but the season is starting in April. Anyway thanks for looking!
