Mods

1995 GMC Sonoma, heavily modified for endurance road racing. You won’t find your typical 4.3L as this engine bay is now home to a 3.5L GM V6, commonly found in a FWD application like a Chevy Uplander or Pontiac G6. Beyond that, the only thing stock in the suspension is the modified front lower control arms. We’ve gutted all what we don’t need and added all the go fast goodies to help keep pace with all the other cars. We’ve also got all the typical safety gear, fuel cell, cage, fire suppression, etc... Of course, the truck has seen numerous reliability mods as that is the key in endurance racing,

Build story

The truck was built in a dare to be different style to stand out but still be competitive in a sea of Miatas, Civics, BMWs, Porsches, Mustangs, MR2s, etc... Ok, to be fair, a couple of those guys will blow our doors off but we really do hold our own! We just barely missed the Lucky Dog Racing Canada - B class Championship in 2020 as it came down to within 1 position on the race track. That’s right, after 8 races and 40 hours of racing last season, this City Chevrolet inspired livery pick up truck nearly won a road racing class championship!

About the engine swap, its a GM 3500 (LX9) which is exclusively found in front wheel drive cars from mid-2000s. We picked this engine as they are quite reliable, lighter than a cast iron 4.3L normally found in these trucks, and have a much high RPM power band, which of course is ideal for racing.

The truck is a blast to drive and it sure is fun passing un-suspecting cars on the race track! With 2020 being our first full season, we now have a better understanding of what’s required to be even faster this season!

Dave Pete, what do you say we wheel this thing around TMP one day???
