1970 VW convertible Beetle

This 1970 VW is a rare Volkswagen Automatic Stickshift that has 90702 original miles on it. When I was in high school, I used my sister’s 1972 hardtop yellow VW Bug when she went off to college. It was a car that would get you where you were going in any kind of weather. It had a crank sunroof which was the coolest thing ever I thought at that time. I was using that car when I met my husband. He, being tall, never really liked the Bug but rode in it as he knew that I did like it. Fast forward A LOT of years and my husband asked me one day what my dream car would be and I said a yellow convertible VW. It was about a month later when I got a call from him asking me if I wanted to go look at a yellow convertible VW after work, he really was saying that after work we WERE going to go look at one he saw for sale about 20 minutes away. So, off we went to look at the car. Of course it was just what I wanted and the people who were selling it had owned it for 30+ years. The woman and I took it for a ride and as we were talking, laughing, swapping VW stories the car started to sputter then it just simply died. We looked at each other as we coasted to the side of the road and she said “oh dear, I think I forgot to put gas in it”, she was right, we had run out of gas! We laughed even harder while walking back to her house to get help. It was almost as funny to see the expression on everyone’s faces when we came back to the house on foot. So, 5 gallons of gas later we decided that we were going to buy the car. We have had it for 10 years and it has been the greatest car! I use it to go back and forth to work during the warm months and to do errands around town. When the kids were small they loved nothing more than to go to school in the VW with the top down. I have to agree that driving with the top down is the best but the car is cute with the top up too, either way it is just a cool little car!!
