Build story

I found the car sitting under some trees behind a shed on a farm property. Asked the farmer if he would like to get rid of it, I ended up picking it up for $300!

Always wanted to do an engine conversion on it but didn#039;t want the usual CA18 or SR20 conversions that are very popular and also not so budget friendly. And I also wanted to keep it 4 cylinder, so settled on the Toyota 3RZ engine out of a Hilux. A turbo manifold was fabbed up for the china turbo, because lets face it, everything is better with boost. Turbosmart wastegate, 3 inch exhaust, custom intercooling piping, front mount intercooler, LS1 throttle body and a custom made intake plenum made from an old air ram cylinder rounds out the engine bay. Its all controlled by an Adaptronic 440 ECU. A flex fuel sensor was put in which enables me to run both 98 octane and E85.

The stock Corolla brakes were never going to cut it with the extra power on tap. Front struts were sourced from an XT130 Toyota Corona. These were a direct changeover, with no modifications needed. Along with Peugeot discs and hilux calipers, the old Corolla stops much better than before.

Rear diff is a M78 Borgwarner and was donated from an R31 Nissan skyline. This was done as to keep the same 4x114.3mm stud pattern as the front end. The long side of the diff was shortened 80mm, this allows you to run the 2 short axels to get the perfect width for the Corolla.

The car was dyno tuned and made a bit over 300hp on 12lb of boost on 98 octane. Yet to put it on the rollers with E85, but the power is noticeably more. It#039;s ran a best of 12.33 @ 119MPH down the 1/4 mile.

The main purpose of the car was to have a reliable budget streetcar that I could go to the shops in, take the kids to school, cruise around and generally have fun with. It gets put down the 1/4 mile and thrashed with big smoky burnouts.

All up it has cost less than $5000 for the complete build, with 95% of the work done by myself, in my shed at home and I#039;m stoked how it came out.
