Build story

the van belonged to my sort-of grandfather. he had it sitting in the woods as a garbage hoarder storage pod. it sat full of junk and extravagant rodent high rise condo complexes, with no wheels or rear axle, for about 50 years. it had sunk down about a foot into the ground. few hours with a bobcat and a chainsaw and she broke loose. pulled it home and let it sit until the day the massachusetts governor scared the bejeezus out of me and told me to stay home from work because of the creepy crawly pandemic. so i did as i was told and i got to work on the van. it sits on a shortened 1996 buick roadmaster frame and maintains the running gear from the same woody trash wagon. just hopped up the motor a bit and lowered the gears with a posi for supreme burnout duty. inside is a raised floor to keep the whole thing level for motorcycle transport. there are compartments under the floor for tools and other junk. i made the interior out of infinite little pieces of tobacco lath from a reclaimed wood dude in CT. it came out pretty well i think. i made a matching bike to go inside, a 1946 cushman step through with the running gear and front suspension from a 2010 kymco super 8 scooter. the back of the center console is a wheel chock, and under the front seats there is a compartment that holds a folding bike ramp. it took me about 6 months to finish, and then i started driving it. i live in massachusetts but in the couple months after i finished it, i took the van to the carlisle PA swap meet, to the TROG night of the troglodytes bike show in NJ, to CT a few times, NH a few times, Maine twice. plenty more trips to come. I have one planned to Oley PA in a few weeks for a bike swap meet. it will cruise 90 up the highway as long as you want to, if that’s your thing. anyway, i guess that’s it. if any judges have any questions, feel free to give me a call at 508-454-7376. i have 5 or 6 other completed projects as well. 1974 winnebago, 4x4 with a 24 valve cummins and a cedar swank palace interior. 1989 jeep grand wagoneer 12 valve cummins on 37’s. 1927 Ford roadster, straight 6 ford 300 engine, 1934 ford pickup donut machine, 1987 yj wrangler with a OM617 mercedes diesel. currently working on a 1965 dodge pickup, bagged with a 650hp 12 valve.
