Okay lets be real here, this entry is more about participating in something fun for a great cause then it is about competition. This 2000 Chrysler Neon is currently serving year round as a daily driver.
I love my little Neon, it has been a great car for the 9 years we have had it. Originally we bought the car for my dad, he needed something simple to drive around and this car was for sale locally, it was cheap and had low kilometers. The clear coat was starting to peel, but the car was rust free, super rare locally. When we bought the car the only things it really needed were a rear main seal, and tires. After my parents drove the car for about 6 years we ended up with a spare car, the Neon. At that point most people would have sold a spare car, but I decided to keep the car around since my daily driver is a truck, and in fairness an inexpensive reliable car is worth far more to me then it is on paper.
What I love most about my Neon is that its just an honest little car, it does not try to be the best at anything. It isnt super fast in any way, but it is pretty good at handling and can be fun on a winding road. Part of me actually likes the way the car looks with the clear peeling, though rust is starting to become an issue so a paint job is coming soon. It has its original 2.0L engine and the 3 speed automatic transmission, a bit of a buzzy combination out on the highway but it gets the job done with respectable fuel mileage too.
I have a lot of ideas for this car, and I am going to do my best to make them happen and to hold onto it as long as I can. The downfall of this Neon has actually been that it is so reliable Ive been able to keep putting off doing any work to it and focus on other projects. I know Neons did not have the greatest reputation, but this one has been good to us.
