Build story
My father bought this truck new in 2005, it was his work truck, that he used to go to his 3 mechanic jobs. In about 2009 he started having issues with the FICM module, typical 6.0 issue. Back and forth to the Ford dealer, and they couldn't figure out the issue.
After several trips to the dealership, he had enough and decided he wanted to Cummins Swap it. A 5.9 was sourced from an F800, we installed the engine using a kit from Fordcummins.com, and a standalone transmission controller.
In 2011, he and my mom took a trip to Texas with it. Truck did well towing his 5 wheel camper. He did lose water pump in Texas, and with me running parts location, he got it fixed, and got back on the road.
Unfortunately, on the the way home from Texas, coming through Maryland on 95, he lost a rear tire on the truck, and ended up rolling it and the camper over. Jaws of Life cut the roof off the truck to get them out.
He was not ready to give up on the old truck yet, and we started brainstorming what to do with it, and he wanted to do something different. He didn't want to just replace the cab and keep going, so in 2020 I located the 65 Ford N-Series cab on Facebook, and it was decided.
He had retired from work, and had the parts he needed to start the project. Unfortunately from years of mechanic work, his knees were shot, and he needed a knee replacement. Back and forth to the surgeon, multiple operations, multiple infections, and he just could not get back on his feet. 2023 it was finally decided that he needed a leg amputation. He went it for the operation on 1/2/2023, and while waiting to be admitted to the hospital for the operation, he contracted COVID, and 18 days later we lost him.
I have now hauled the truck the 100 miles to my house, and will be finishing the truck in memory of him. Wish me luck, I'm gonna need it.
