What started out as a straight forward restoration has turned into a splice to mate a 4dr bottom to a 2dr Convertible top.

Mods

Chop roof off 4dr. Remove "X" from rotten convertible frame and weld into 4dr frame. Cut out floor tunnel from 4dr floor and weld in tunnel from convertible to accommodate "X" in frame. Separate firewalls and "A" Pillars from both cars and swap cowl and windshield pillar. Remove any spot welded brackets from 4dr that needed clearing for convertible placement. Shorten trunk deck from convertible 5/16" and will be moving trunk rails in 1/4 to mate with the different taper. We are about to weld in rear doors from a 4dr where there is a giant gap in the quarter panel. Upgrading 352 FE with 390. No manuals for some of this so decisions have been new, challenging but also interesting.

Build story

Our goal is a classy original looking 63 Mercury Monterey Convertible with physical and emotional scars hidden underneath.
