Build story
I picked this truck up after my wife begged me to go get it. She wanted a short box 70s ford, and who was into argue. It needed work but was a solid platform to get started with. She sorted out the engine she wanted, wheels, interior etc and I began working on it. It had a mild 302HO but the Windsor was gonna be better for this build. She had everything picked out and had my work list laid out for me. Unfortunately she never got to see it as it is today. The day after she had the ideas in place she was killed by an impaired driver, leaving me with our two young daughters. We were devastated. I was not up for building this truck, I couldn’t find the strength to do it. My oldest daughter started to beg me to help her get the truck put back together so we could drive it. Both of the girls dragged me out after months of sitting absent, they knew I needed to get back into it to help my own mental state. We worked many long hours to get the truck to where it is now. There’s still much to do, but it’s a fun ride that was built in a very rough time. My time spent working on this with my girls was very therapeutic and it helped to pull me through the worst time of my life. The body isn’t perfect and still needs some love, but a part of me just wants to leave it like it is. It’s a bit rough around the edges but it’s got a heart of gold and it’s a blast to drive. This project along with my girls kept me from sliding down a much darker path in a time that it would’ve been easy to just give up. \r
The engine was built at Precision Racing Engines in North Vancouver. The transmission was one I had picked up on our last road trip together to a swap meet a month before she passed away. I owe a lot of thanks to a couple close friends that helped me along the way with this build and my own sanity during such a terrible time. Without them, my daughters and this truck, I don’t believe I would be where I am today.
