Build story

The trucks name is Otto! He’s a German at heart with a Mercedes 3.0 litre 6 cylinder turbo charged diesel beast. Which came first? The egg or the chicken? In this case, the engine came first. I was fascinated by the Mercedes OM606, which in the USA, was only offered for a few years in the E300, but in the UK has been around for quite a while. \r
\r
Otto has been a project for almost 6 months and has made it to daily driver status....finally. The ‘95 F-150 2wd started life with a 5.0 V8 which when I picked it up seemed to have some engine trouble making a perfect candidate for the swap. \r
\r
The diesel swap was successful and is backed by the Mercedes 722.6 transmission which was rebuilt by a local shop with upgraded internals. I installed a stand-alone controller with a ton of parameters that can easily be manipulated. \r
\r
Thus far, the swap has been great and has yielded almost 25 mpg and I’m optimistic that it can get better!
