Build story

I bought the car when I was 17 after saving up for a project car. I had seen the car on Craigslist while bedridden from getting my wisdom teeth out (never buy a car after getting your wisdom teeth out), and within a few hours it had been snatched up. A few days later, when I had recovered a bit more, I saw it listed again on Craigslist, and this time acted fast. I bought the car, enjoyed it for a month only to have it break. With further inspection, I found that the woodruff key slot on the crankshaft, where the timing gear goes over, had chipped (a known problem for early 1.6. Liter Miata's). I decided to source a used crankshaft, and also bought a rebuild kit "while I was in there." With the help of my Dad, him and I took the engine out, and tore it apart, cleaned everything and put all the new gaskets, seals, pistons, and rings in place and put it back in the car. This was my first father and son car project, and a story I hope to tell my kids some day. Not to mention, I hope to keep the car as long as to pass it down to them when they're old enough. \r
Anyhow, after that experience, I learned a lot, and got more comfortable working on it and modifying it. I spent the last three years saving up money here and there from being a janitor, and buying cool stuff for it which made it much more enjoyable. I have put approximately 49,000 miles on it in a matter of three years, some of which were from autocross. This car pretty much is what I've became known for in my hometown, since I'm always seen in it. I daily drove it to high school, and currently some of college and work, it's been in my senior photos and such. It gave me the nickname "Red Car Mike." and so on.
