Cocaine and High Revs

An ugly truck from Oklahoma that absolutely rips.

With pure speed as the goal, dropping a 6.2 LS into a ‘65 C10 named Cocaine (because of the color of the wheels), just seems like the right thing to do. This truck needed to be fast off the line but still be reliable enough to cruise through town to hit up the local hardware store. Sure enough to raise some eyebrows, but most importantly would give the opportunity for plenty of conversation with the locals. When you move from Florida to Texas and build an ugly truck from Oklahoma that absolutely rips, you’re going to have lots of people wanting to talk to you about your truck. One of the first questions will always be “What’s under the hood?”

I drive it like I stole it, if you’re not shifting it at 7500rpm you aren’t doing it right.

The 6.2L has quickly become one of the holy grails of engine swaps. In 2007 Chevrolet would replace the 6.0L with a slightly larger 6.2L in their high performance vehicles such as the Corvette and the Camaro ss. The 6.2 also came in the Denali and Escalade suv and trucks. Straight from the factory you’re looking at a minimum 430 horses at 5900 rpm.

The 6.2 motor got a fully built bottom end that was bored 50 over and studded. Running a Holley Ultra Lo-Ram intake kit with the Holley Terminator ECU, and that’s not all that they had in their baggie.

Builder Q&A

What was your first vehicle?

My first vehicle was a 1995 ram 2500 12v standard cab long bed, when I was 12 years old. I still have it today

Who was your biggest influence for working on cars/doing a project and why?

My biggest influence is my grandpa. He had a mechanic shop that was my favorite place to go! I wish he could see my vehicles.

Best advice for anyone looking to build their dream truck?

Best advice for someone looking to build their dream truck is just do it, it doesn’t matter how long it takes, have fun, do it just like you want it, and don’t listen to people that say you can’t do it, because you can do it.

What was the biggest challenge for this build?

The biggest challenge was putting floorboards back in the truck because there was nothing left of them. EVERYTHING was modified for this build, the firewall, frame, suspension, motor, driveline, body parts, all of it basically.

Any plans for another build?

We are actually building a pro touring truck right now, it’s on coilovers all the way around and it’s going to have a turbocharged 5.3ls and a 4l80e in it.
